If You’re Scared Your Dentist Will Judge You, Here Are Three Reasons Why They Won’t

Lots of people are insecure about their teeth. For one reason or another, it seems like everyone has something they aren’t happy with about their smile.

On the bright side, dentistry has advanced to such an extent that it can treat or prevent nearly any issue. Yet some people are too insecure about their teeth to get the oral healthcare they need. If you have been avoiding checkups because you don’t like your smile, here are a few reasons you can be confident that your dentist will not judge you.

Your Dentist Wants to Make You Comfortable

Ultimately, your dentist wants you to keep coming back to see them. They also want to make treatment as easy as possible, which isn’t helped by an anxious, unsteady patient. Think about it: if you’ve ever visited a dentist who didn’t make you feel welcome, did that make you want to come back?

That’s why a good dentist will work hard to make their patients as comfortable as possible. A judgmental attitude won’t help with that; if anything, it’ll only make their job harder.

Your Dentist Has Seen It All

To practice dentistry, you have to look inside a lot of mouths. Between pictures in a textbook and patients in their residency, your dentist has seen it all. Even dental hygienists have to go through years of school. Your dentist’s experience is one of their greatest strengths, and that experience guarantees that they aren’t going to seriously judge you.

Your Dentist Has a Job to Do

When you walk into a dentist’s office, there’s one thing that’s at the forefront of their mind: restoring you to great oral health. Dentists are drawn to their field for all kinds of reasons, but one of them is that they love to solve problems. Between hearing out your situation, putting you at ease, diagnosing your issue, and planning your treatment, they have too much on their mind to judge you personally.

There are nasty dentists out there, but for the most part, dentists are professionals who aren’t going to pass judgment. You shouldn’t let fear of shame stop you from getting the oral healthcare you need.
